Aphrodite Calling
On the day we know as The Day of LOVE, Valentine's Day, I wanted to give reverence to my favorite Goddess. She just happens to be the Goddess of LOVE, Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the Goddess of LOVE, Beauty, Pleasure and Sexuality. I remember always being pulled by her in art as a child. Then after reading the Iliad and the Odyssey in English class in 9th grade, she stayed with me. My path is a path of LOVE, Beauty, Pleasure and Sexuality. Before I even knew I was on this mystical path the name "Aphrodite Calling" was whispered to me. The Goddess of LOVE speaks through me. I am Aphrodite, I am LOVE.
I have pulled together some of my favorite Aphrodite Art pieces, music and writings. Enjoy....
Cream-Tales of Brave Ulysses
This is the song Tales of Brave Ulysses by the 60s band Cream. The trio was made up of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker.

The Goddess Speaks, Aphrodite
I am Aphrodite, Mairamne, Aphrodite-Mari, Stella Mari, the life giver risen from the tangy frosty waters--the original cauldron of transformation. I am life and death. From my loins all things issue forth, and at the it is I to whom they return.
I am Aprhodite sea born, the sexual goddess and death goddess all at once. And what a sight I am! I am naked, without shame. I am attractive and alluring. They tried to tame me, and still I would not obey. They tried to degrade me with censorship. They tried to regulate me with laws and turn my people away. I only came back stronger.
Yes, look at me, I am sex unbridled. I am the heat in cats and dogs. I am the lovers' passionate relationship. I am the LOVERS' embrace and the lust they try to deny you. Yes, lust. When your body is wholesome, healthy and my natural time comes around, I am the one who makes you sigh all night and look with longing on those who have captured your fancy.
I am also the prostitutes who gather in the loveless and undesirable men from the streets. I am the generous whore with the golden hearn and the cold cunt with ice in my veins. I rule everything. I am almighty. No one can resist me. I made you that way. My imprint is on your every cell and nerve ending. I am the images you see in wet dreams, and I am the hope of the lovelorn and the treasure of those who find me.
I reward my worshipers with long and healthy lives. I am there for the traveler and the home bound. I am the food of the body and soul; I am the future of races. I continue weaving my web of knowing around your heart, even if you have been giving this knowing away. When you no longer want me, old and tired, I will take you back into my all-encompassing lap because I am the one who decides on your hour of return.
Are you aghast? Are you wavering, trying to avoid my face, ashamed that you are so weak as to bow to me? Know that I am queen of organic life; none but the stones can resist me. Nothing but honesty makes you listen.
I proclaim messages of LOVE; this is my job, and I do it well. All art thrives on my feelings; all music celebrates my variety; all dancers dedicate their movement to me; and all sculptors follow my lines, if they are any good. I am one with the opposites; I am constantly uniting. I am pansexual; the imprint of genitals is repeated in nature. Look at the vulva like seashells or the nourishing barley for my shape. Look deeply into the orchids, roses, irises--they imitate my sex. Admire the scent and drink deeply of the summer night's coming. I am in the air, dispensing longing and ecstasy in generous measures. My celebrations are spent with flutes and bare feet on the mountaintops. I am Marina, curly-haired and swarty. The mermaids are my cousins. I am that which makes your life worth living...

Love magic appears or is alluded to in the literature of every epoch of
ancient Greek history, beginning with Homer and ending with early Christian
hagiography. In the fourteenth book of the Iliad Aphrodite lends
Hera her magical belt (kestos himas) to repair her parents’ estrangement,
but Hera uses it instead to seduce her husband, Zeus.
...Aphrodite in book
8 can perhaps be linked with the later use in love spells of images of these
two deities bound in an erotic embrace.
...Sappho’s Hymn to Aphrodite most clearly reflects the form, content,
and intent of later erotic spells
...Aphrodite can “steal away the mind of thoughtful men,”

The Priestesses of Aphrodite
Able to move energies through their bodies like playing a fine instrument, the Priestesses of Aphrodite knew the power of pure joy and deepest celebration. They were also among the finest Sexual Medicine Healers of all time. These Priestesses understood the lightness of joy while embodying the most powerful forces in the universe, like their Nymph foremothers. http://www.jenniferposada.com/the-sacredly-sexual-priestess-trainings
