The Rune Uruz

The Rune Uruz
Uruz means aurochs, the European wild ox that became extinct in 1627. Uruz encompasses physical strength, endurance, courage, and the raw, wild power of freedom. It includes emotional and spiritual strength, sexual potency, and good health.

Pronunciation: “Oo – Ruse”

5. URUZ - Power, Manhood, Femaleness, A Wild Bull

The rune of the termination and new beginning.  If it is pulled, it means that the life you used to live has grown out of its frame and needs to be left behind now, so that the life-energy can liberate itself, like a rebirth, into a new one. Be prepared for the chance, that hides itself behind the costume of loss.  At the same time modesty is demanded, because in order to rule, you must serve first.

Ur meant an elemental masculine potency.
Physically: strengthen agility and endurance. Emotionally: courage and boldness. Spiritually: freedom. Thus, that which can
never be domesticated or enslaved. The triumphant soul of
nature. The shape of Ur is a horn or erect phallus.

Yoga Pose: Bend at the waist, with the back horizontal
and parallel to the ground. Arms and finger-
tips point toward the ground; the head should IT

The U-rune is the mother of manifestation. In the mythology this is represented by the great cow Audhumla, which licked a great icy block of salt in order to form the primal androgyne Buri. Also, she
was the source of sustenance for the cosmic giant Ymir. Audhumla was herself formed from the dripping rime produced when the world fire met the world ice. This is also the unmanifested energized essence from which the cosmic ice and Audhumla were originally formed. Uruz is the patterning and formulating power in the multiverse, the source of the ordering principles that lead to the final formulation of the world. The U-rune is the unmanifested pattern of matter (contrast with the antimatter nature of isa) .
This is the cosmic seed, the world force analogous to the semen virile.

It contains the mystery of the formulation of the self, a composite paradigm of all the aspects of the psychosomatic complex, just as the multiverse is framed from the various worlds. Uruz is the forming force, not the form itself (see the H-rune). The U-rune is the shaping power that defines the origin and destiny of all things. This mystery may be demonstrated through the shape of the stave, as

Uruz is the eternal reservoir of archetypal patterning. Because of its shaping power, uruz is a rune symbolizing wisdom and lore, as the pattern of preserved tradition that is sprung from the natural order. Just as this indicates a healthy society (one in
accordance with natural order), so too is this a rune of good physical health in the personal realm. The U-rune promotes strong and harmonious organic systems. It is the rune of vital strength and virility.

The Rune Ehwaz

The Rune Ehwaz

EHWAZ - Movement, Progress, Horse

Ehwaz is a rune of passage, of transition and movement: location changes, relocation, new attitudes or new life. This rune also represents movement, such as improving a situation. This rune is combined with gradual development and continuous progress, even slow growth of some changes and transformations. Conversely, movement that seems to block. Make sure that what you do or do not do happens at the right time. There are no missed opportunities, we only need to recognize that not all opportunities are intended for us.

Corresponding Tarot Cards: Wheel of Fortune, Chariot

Prounounciation:
"ay-wawz"
or Ehwo
"ay-woh"
E a as in "day"

The horse was more than just a means of transportation to the early Germans.It was a sacred animal related to the cult of the sun. The sun was envisioned as riding across the heavens in his chariot drawn by shining steeds. Tacitus writes in his Germania;

Kept at public exPense in these same (consecrated)
woods and groves are white horses, pure from the
taint of earthly labor; these are yoked to a sacred car,
and accompanied by the priest and the king, or chief
of the tribe, who note their neighings and snortings'
At Trundholm, Denmark was discovered a bronze chariot
which represents the solar disk being drawn by a horse' The disk was originally covered in gold leaf, most of which has fallen off. Both horse and chariot are mounted on wheels, perhaps to be pulled along in a procession. The wheels are of four spokes u.rd ,r".y similar to the ten wheels that support the solar altar de-scribed under the Sigel rune. This model of the chariot of the sun has been dated by some authority's as t'ilrly irs 1000 llC.

FUTHARK: A HANDBOOK OF RUNE MAGIC

Names: GMC ehioaz: horse, or ehwo: the two horses, war horse ON ior: horse (used only in cultic contexts, and not found in the Younger Futhark)

Esoteric interpretation of name: the twin gods or heroes in equine aspect.
Ideographic interpretation: two upright poles bound together to symbolize the divine twins (the Bronze Age symbol Jl" represented these divinities); also the sign of two horses facing one another.

COMMENTARY
Ehwo represents the power of the twin gods. This power construct is a reflection of a dual form of Germanic kingship. These leaders often were represented mythically as horses. Here we think of Hengist (stallion) and Horsa (horse), the Saxon conquerors of Britain. Also, the name of the twin gods of the Veda, the Asvinau, literally means "the two horses." The harmonious relationship between the two forces represented in the dual construct is emphasized, rather than the defensive and outwardly directed power expressed in the Z-rune. All this points to the close relationship between man and horse felt by the Indo-Europeans in general and the Germanic peoples in particular. The horse is a source of numinous knowledge, and horses often were consulted by the ancient Germanic priests in divinatory rites. The ehwaz is a spiritual quality closely connected to mankind
imannas}, In Old Norse it is said: marr er manns fylgja (the horse is a man's fetch). The bind rune of M and 1"\ is (em), which means "I am." The E-rune facilitates the journey between the worlds of Yggdrasill-the vitki may literally ride its power through the reality. Ehwaz is the rune of Slcipnir. Lore of the Elder Futhark 59
Many runic talismans portray a man riding a horse as a symbol form
for integrated magical protection, under the rulership of Odhinn, This is the otherworldly aspect of ehioaz, but the horse also is connected with fertility magic, and thus to Freyr, the god of fertility, peace, and sensuality. This is a rune of trust and loyalty. The spiritual relationship that a horseman develops for his horse is a good illustration of the might of this rune. There is much power to be gained in this secret. Ehwaz is the combination of itoo sympathetic, yet dually arrayed forces or entities (such as man/horse, horse/chariot, body/soul) that work harmoniously together toward one goal (see the TH-rune for the contrasting concept).

The rune is the symbol of the ideal man-woman relationship
and thus is the mystery of lawful marriage.

Key words:
Harmonious duality
Vehicle of otherworldly journeys
Fertility
Trust, loyalty

The Rune Gebo

Artist Brian Froud

Gebo

Pronounce:
"gay-boe"
or "yee-boe"
hard g as in "gift" , y as in "yes", or silent

2. GEBO - a Partnership, a Gift

If this rune is pulled, that is a sign that unity, union or partnership is near. But you are requested, not to throw yourself into this connection. A true partnership can only consist of two independent, healthy beings, that preserve there own independence also in this union. This advice is important at all levels: in romantic relationships, in commercial things, simply in partnerships of every type.

Gifts played an important part in German culture. A chief would support the young warriors who followed him with gifts of horses, weapons and lavish feasts. Relations between tribes were always conducted with the exchange of costly presents'

Tacitus writes in his Germania:
...whatever he may ask for, and a present in return is asked with as little hesitation. They are greatly charmed with gifts, but they expect no return for what they give, nor feel any obligation for what they receive. The giving to, and receiving of gifts from, the gods would
have been looked upon as a natural extension of these customs.

Accordingly, Gyfu has been regarded as a magical symbol connected with sacrifice. It seems probable that it refers more to sacrifices made to the gods than gifts of the gods to men because of the nature of Teutonic deities-the pagan gods such as Thor and Odin could be expected to gift a man only with strength and cunning. Even this might be capriciously withdrawal on a whim.

On the other hand, men were obligated to sacrifice to the gods lest the gods become angry and visit them with misfortunes. Even before the advent of Christianity, it would be reasonable to link Gyfu with charity. Generosity was the virtue of great chiefs. The covetous were despised and believed to suffer an ill fate. Gyfu would generally mean something of personal value, l'reely and willingly given away. It might be a life sacrifice-forsaking present happiness for future joy. It is good to sacrifice the lower for the higher; evil to sacrifice the higher for the lower. 'l'he cross is an ancient symbol of suffering.

Magically, a sign of initiation. What must be given up in order to gain wisdom and spiritual power. No advance is possible without pain and loss. The rune can be applied to another person favorably Is the bringer of gifts, or unfavorably as the causer of sacrifice.

http://runesecrets.com/rune-meanings/gebo

Gebo is the rune of "god," that is, the eminent unconscious magical force present in the Ginnungagap (magically charged void) before the formation of the Worlds. 2 The holy mystery of the two (or many) in one.

It is the giver, the giving, the given, and that which is given to; "the subject, verb, direct object and indirect object of the multiverse." This also describes a part of the mystery of sacrifice as the gift (ultimately of power) that is given to mankind by the gods in order to maintain the ecology of cosmic power.

By the power of this rune persons are bound together through an act of will in order to effect a result. This stave symbolizes the root force of runic orders, the retinue system, etc.The G-rune has some functional similarities to the A-rune, since it is also a rune of ecstasy. It is the mystery of ecstatic magical power that is perceived and retained by the vitki as numinous knowledge.

Gebo contains the secrets of psychically joining two people
(usually male/female), or several persons, in order that they may produce a creative power greater than their sum total. This is the rune of sex magic. Sex magic was practiced in ancient Germanic times, especially for the acquisition of numinous knowledge and wisdom.

.... sexual symbolism (a child is born from their union). This was the usual mode of sex magic in which energy was exchanged along the male/female polarity. Further evidence for this is provided by the eighteenth-rune stanza of the "Havamal" (stanza164):
That eighteenth I know,
which I never reveal
to maid or man's wife
anything is better,
than if one know it
this leads to the last of the songs-
but only for that one,
who embraces me
or that be my sister.

Gebo is the rune of the brotherly or sisterly lover, and it is the psychosexual force exchanged between two poles of power-human to human, or divine to divine. In the latter case, gebo describes the sexual life force used in fertility magic and that used in shamanistic practices.

Gebo Yoga position:

Stand with legs spread, feet straight, and knees locked. Arms are stretched out in an angle forming an X, with hands directly over feet.

The Making of Runes and Their Meaning

The Making of Runes and Their Meaning

My divination tool has been Tarot for many years, I work with the cards everyday. The inner voice within is leading me to the runes. My first sighting and experience with the runes was in Scotland, which is also my birthplace. I currently am creating many sets of runes for my dancing sisters. Something that spirit led me to do. I hope to learn much from the runes and I hope my dancing sisters enjoy them as well. The creation itself is act of meditation and Magick. The story of Odin and the origin of the runes is inspirational. Odin was much like Jesus, Buddha or Osiris. Odin like them sacrificed himself, he sacrificed himself for wisdom and knowledge, the runes.

I posted a few books about runes from my library on Google Drive for you to read and enjoy.

How to Get Started With Using Runes

Find a quiet place to do your reading and start by having a period of quiet, where you clear your mind and focus on the reading you’re about to do. Think about the issue or question you have in mind or you can leave your mind blank and see where the runes direct your subconscious. If you so desire, you can say a prayer or call upon higher spirits to guide you with your reading.

Your rune cloth should be spread on the table in front of you, ready for the runes to lay upon it.

There are various different types of rune castings you can do – which are similar in idea to tarot layouts – but on your very first attempt, you might just like to start by picking out between one rune and analyzing its significance. Before reading the meaning notice how the symbol makes you feel.

This is also quite a useful method to use if you’re feeling unsure or uncertain – picking out one single rune can give you something to focus on.

Once you feel happy to progress, then have a go at some of the rune layouts and casts. http://www.holisticshop.co.uk/articles/guide-runes

How to Choose the runes to use: There is no right way to choose a rune for your layout. Listen to yourself. Here are some suggestive ways.

  • Pass your hands over the runes and choose which one you are guided to or if you get a warmth or tingle in your hand.
  • You can mix the bag and pull out of the bag one by one.
  • You can dump the bag and see which ones lay upwards and downwards.
  • Or if there is another way you are guided to choose a rune.

Layouts: There are many layouts for runes, like tarot. I like to use a Compass read in tarot. Here are two examples of rune layouts:

Large Set of Runes I made

According to myth, the god Oðin discovered the runes as a result of a deliberate self-sacrificial ritual.
Wounded I hung on a wind-swept gallows
For nine long nights,
Pierced by a spear, pledged to Odin,
Offered, myself to myself
The wisest know not from whence spring
The roots of that ancient rood.

They gave me no bread,
They gave me no mead,
I looked down;
With a loud cry
I took up runes;
From that tree I fell.

- from The Words of the High One (Hávamál) - translated from the original Icelandic by W. H. Auden and P. B. Taylor.

"These lines describe a magical ritual of initiation involving the death of the mundane self and rebirth into the higher mysteries. The position of the god on the tree is that of the Hanged Man of the Tarot-suspended head downward, he peers not only into the depths of the earth but into the depths of his own being. The runes are the sacred symbols of his Higher Self. But once they are his, all things become possible. His bonds fall off and the weary god drops to the earth the runes seared upon his heart.

Rune means secret. In German it is related to the word for whispering. In modern times any obscure markings are referred to as runes. The word connotes the mysterious, the unknown, the supernatural. This is fitting because runes have always been foremost a magical device, and only secondarily a mode of writing."-From the book Rune Magic, by Donald Tyson. You can read on my Google Drive

Sites to visit:

In Småland, there are five or six runestones that mention voyages to England. One of them (Sm 77) mentions a man who was a marshal (stallari) in England. This runestone is located in Transjö. It is one of the older stones as it is in the style RAK. The runes are unusual as the m-runes are dotted and the k-runes have a stroke to the left instead of to the right. The stone was raised in memory of a son who died in England named Ketill, who was described as being óníðingr. Óníðingr, which with the ó- prefix means the opposite of the Old Norse pejorative word níðingr, was used to describe a man as being virtuous and is translated in the Rundata database as "unvillainous."

I will post more as my journey into the runes continues.

Hello From Aphrodite Calling

Hello From Aphrodite Calling!

I wish everyone a very Happy Holiday Season, I am back! My life, since I last posted, has changed dramatically. A new job has me traveling frequently and inspired often. I continue to study belly dance and now perform with a group called Hypno Tribe, we perform in a show called Las Vaudeville every other month. I am currently writing choreography for my first solo performance. My life has completely changed.

Many things have not changed. I still continue my spiritual practices, occult readings and research as well as my creation of art and dance. I read tarot everyday, attend rituals and create rituals. I hope that my words and actions inspire and transform others. I have grown since the last time I wrote on this blog. I continue to learn on this journey, the more you know the more you know you don't know. I have healed and I also know what I need to work on. Some of my previous posts reflect my reflections and knowledge of that time. The veils continue to lift and my wisdom grows. Always a humble student of the Universe.

Warriors of Light Unite

Warriors of Light Unite

Prayers, Art, Music, Dance, Intentions, Spells are needed. Warriors of Light Unite

Infinite Love to All

Colonel Bagshot – Six-Day War Lyrics
At the starting of the week
At summit talks, you'll hear them speak
It's only Monday
Negotiations breaking down
See those leaders start to frown
It's sword and gun day

Tomorrow never comes until it's too late

You could be sitting taking lunch
The news will hit you like a punch
It's only Tuesday
You never thought we'd go to war
After all the things we saw
It's April Fools' day

Tomorrow never comes until it's too late

We'll all go running underground
And we'll be listening for the sound
It's only Wednesday
In your shelter, dimly lit,
Take some wool and learn to knit
'Cause it's a long day

Tomorrow never comes until it's too late

You hear a whistling overhead
Are you alive or are you dead?
It's only Thursday
You feel the shaking of the ground
A billion candles burn around
Is it your birthday?

Tomorrow never comes until it's too late

Although that shelter is your home
A living space you have outgrown
It's only Friday
As you come out to the light,
Can your eyes behold the sight?
It must be Doomsday...

Tomorrow never comes until it's too late

Ain't it funny how men think
They made the bomb, they are extinct
It's only Saturday

I think tomorrow's come, I think it's too late
I think tomorrow's come, I think it's too late

Think tomorrow's come... I think it's too late

http://thebulletin.org/press-release/doomsday-clock-hands-remain-unchanged-despite-iran-deal-and-paris-talks9122

WASHINGTON, D.C. & STANFORD, CA. – January 26, 2016 – The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Science and Security Board announced today that the minute hand of its closely watched Doomsday Clock will remain at three minutes to midnight, since recent progress in the Iran nuclear agreement and the Paris climate accord “constitute only small bright spots in a darker world situation full of potential for catastrophe.”

Available in PDF format, the statement accompanying the Doomsday Clock decision opens with the following words: “Three minutes (to midnight) is too close. Far too close. We, the members of the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, want to be clear about our decision not to move the hands of the Doomsday Clock in 2016: That decision is not good news, but an expression of dismay that world leaders continue to fail to focus their efforts and the world's attention on reducing the extreme danger posed by nuclear weapons and climate change. When we call these dangers existential, that is exactly what we mean: They threaten the very existence of civilization and therefore should be the first order of business for leaders who care about their constituents and their countries.”

Had we destroyed our home? What had we done to the earth? There had been many ways for life to perish at our hands; we had poisoned the air and water; we had ravaged the land. Perhaps we had changed the climate. Could it have been a plague or nuclear war? I remembered the galactic computer. What would it say about the earth?

There was our region of the galaxy; there was our world. I had found the entry for earth: HUMANITY: THIRD FROM THE SUN. They had heard our television broadcasts and thought them an application for cosmic citizenship. Our technology had been growing enormously (they got that right). Two hundred nation states, about six global powers, the potential to become one planet. Probability of survival over a century -- here, also, less than one percent. So, it was nuclear war, a full nuclear exchange.

There would be no more big questions, no more answers. Never again a love or a child; no descendents to remember us and be proud; no more voyages to the stars, no more songs from the earth.

I saw east Africa and thought, "a few million years ago we humans took our first steps there. Our brains grew and changed. The old parts began to be guided by the new parts, and this made us human -- with compassion and foresight and reason. But, instead, we listened to that reptilian voice within us, counseling fear, territoriality and aggression. We accepted the products of science; we rejected its methods".

Maybe the reptiles will evolve intelligence once more. Perhaps, one day, there will be civilizations again on earth. There will be life, there will be intelligence; but there will be no more humans -- not here, not in a billion worlds.
